The Community:
Chaparral is located south of Fish Creek Provincial Park, immediately south of Marquis of Lorne Trail (Highway 22X) and east of Macleod Trail. The community at only a few years old was a venue for the 1997 World Police and Fire Games.

 
The Lake:
The community of Chaparral is built around a finely crafted man-made 32-acre lake.  Development of the lake included a man-made mountain with alpine-style stream and two waterfalls. The lake is a haven for recreational divers, complete with groupings of 72-inch diameter concrete pipes and an underwater obstacle course. Activities available at the lake include tennis, fishing, boating, skating, beach volleyball, basketball, fire pits, sandy beaches, tobogganing, cook shelters, playgrounds, picnic area, horseshoes and recreation programs for children.

For the 2013 year, the fees are $307.41 for non-waterfront homes and $470.97 for waterfront homes. This is an annual fee paid once a year that covers the use of the recreational facilities for the whole family and your guests.

Genstar was the Developer of Chaparral and the builders they worked with was BayWest, Cedarglen Group, Hilltop, Homes by Avi, Jayman, R.J. Stone, Sedona and Skyline.

Shopping for the area is north up Macleod Trail in Midnapore and Shawnessy, complete with a new "Coliseum style" movie multiplex. The largest area shopping centre is Southcentre Mall.

Close by is Calgary's South Fish Creek Recreational facility with included the YMCA, Library and 4 ice surfaces. The community is also connected to the path system of Fish Creek Park and has baseball diamonds and soccer fields that will keep everyone active.
